| | Description | Harvey is big-hearted and relentlessly cheerful. Mocked by James and Gordon for not looking "normal" when he arrived, Harvey proved himself to be very useful by clearing up after a crash. He is now a popular addition to the group. He's a mainline worker, but because of his shape, doesn't fit into the Tidmouth Sheds and has to park parallel. This means he can overhear the principal characters' conversations, but not quite join in. His voice booms, and he loves helping others. He's happy working in the yards, the Docks and building sites, but his true home is in the "Sodor Water Works." | |

Harvey the crane engine Sep 01, 2005
By Rowan
"Rowan"
If your child likes playing with Thomas & Friends trains, Harvey was brought to the Island of Sodor because accidents happen. At first, the big engines teased Harvey because of his unique look, but Harvey soon showed his stuff by clearing the tracks when Percy's freight cars derailed in the way of Bertie's path. After that day, nobody ever teased him again.
I recommend Harvey a little bit more than Butch, another character with a tow arm, because Harvey is for the rails and his crane arm is more flexible and durable. I recommend Harvey if you want to have a ready-for-anything crane engine added to your collection.

Harvey Rules Feb 14, 2004
By Mr. Bey Harvey is a crane engine who was introduced in Salty's Secret. He can pull the other engines along with coaches or trucks. His magnet works perfectly and Harvey is espically good for your money.

durable and fun! Jan 11, 2008
By Roo's mom I thought for sure that some movable part on this engine would break, or that the engine would be perpetually tipping over. Neither has happened in the year+ we've owned Harvey. The magnet is strong enough to pick up another engine, or paper clips, coins, etc. The more moving parts, the more interesting the engine, and Harvey's got the goods!

Have to have Harvey as part of the Thomas set! Jul 28, 2011
By rely on feedback for purchases I have nothing but good things to say about the wood trains of the Thomas series. I have purchased numerous of them & will continue to purchase them. The unique thing we like about Harvey is his moving part. He stands out from the other trains and seems to be a favorite. He just looks happy which is nice.
If your children enjoy Thomas then Harvey is an excellent addition!

Havey is great but.... Apr 13, 2004
By BenBoyd My 4 year old adores Harvey and has great fun "rescuing" the other trains when they de-rail. There is one problem : with the overhead crane feature, Harvey doesn't fit under the Stop and Go station (the crane arm bumps into the Go sign if it is in the forward position).
