How and Why we purchased this one: We originally purchased a different bubble gun while at a county fair. It broke within a week. I tried to fix it but was unable. So, after much perusing online, my son and I decided on this one due to the reviews. Basically, from our research, it appears that most of these bubble guns on the market are all identical. (This is based on my taking the old one apart when trying to fix it. When looking at the majority of the others offered, including this one, it appears they use the same basic mechanism and design.) So, trying to decide which one would be the most durable was really just a eenie-meenie-minee-mo game. I didn't trust how long any of them would last and was, quite frankly, reluctant to spend more money on another one at all.....but my son (10 yrs old) enjoyed the first one SO much that my arm was twisted.
Durability: We have now had this one about a month and a half, and though he has not used it everyday, he has used it quite frequently. So far, so good....it hasn't broken or malfunctioned yet. Of course, he gets the same pleasure out of it that he did out of the first one he had....it's just a matter of seeing how long this one lasts before it breaks. I don't mean to sound cynical, but let's face it.....they are all made in China and are likely not designed to be durable, just last long enough for some fun times.
Educational: I think any toy that causes you to explore shape, technique, air flow, surface tension, etc. is educational on some level. So I would put this out there as a minor educational toy (since Amazon asked me to rate it in this category). Research says sand and water play are vital to kids developing an understanding of physics, so I'd imagine that a toy that creates bubbles can fit in here somewhere, too.
Fun factor: I've yet to see a kid who doesn't thoroughly enjoy using a bubble gun....be it this one or any other. When they work, they work great, producing tons of bubbles. With the right soap mixture (once you run out of the one provided) you can make some bubbles that really last, floating up and away and out of sight.
So, I rated this four stars not because I find it to be an especially durable product...cause I don't know that yet....only time will tell (but it made it past the first week unlike the previous brand!)...I rated it four stars because it is alot of fun (just like any bubble gun). I would have spent more money if I could have found a bubble gun (not machine, but a gun) that was well made and durable and could last through the years. But I doubt any such item exists.
So, my advice? Buy any of these China made bubble instruments knowing they may not last. Just have fun with them as long as they are still working.

This bubble gun is great! Lights up with different colors in the dark, and send out a blue laser bean when you press the trigger while sending out soooo many bubbles. I thought the bubbles container would empty fast, but it sure LASTS for a long time. my kid loves it.

I got this bubble gun to play with my dogs. It works pretty well, depending on the bubbles you use. I dumped the bubbles that came with it because they smelled weird and my dogs didn't like them. I got some dog safe bubbles and they work ok. Not really a continuous flow of bubbles, kind of sporadic and works better if you point it up. But it might be the type or consistency of the bubble solution I'm using. I would say for the price, it's a pretty good toy, especially if you're only using it for pets. Kids might get frustrated with it.

This would probably be alright if it was not for the way in which it tries to put the solution on the circle to allow bubbles to be made.
It has a plastic bar that moves up and down over the circle when you push the button. This should put the solution on the circle allow bubbles to come out.
In reality, you end up clicking the dang trigger 20 times to get the solution to allow bubbles to form and then you get about 2 bubbles.
All in all, I found myself frustrated and my son sitting there looking at me waiting for bubbles.
It is a small purchase so almost did not review it, but wanted to give the feedback in case it helped someone.
Bottom line from all I have read is all these type of toys suck :(

My boy has been using one of these bubble guns since he was two and he is now four. This bubble gun is very easy to use and works extremely well. One thing to keep in mind is that it matters what brand of bubble maker that is used in the bubble gun.
