The jump rope itself seems pretty sturdy and the rope is thick and made of cloth, not plastic (the handles are made from recycled milk jugs). While that makes the rope not spin so fast, I don't have to worry about my kids getting nasty plastic rope welts from fast spinning ropes. This rope comes out of the package on the short side, but it says that it's adjustable by twisting the handles. Now I don't know if that means adjustable to be larger or smaller because I'll be darned if I can't get the handles to twist, so I haven't been able to adjust it. I am not a tall person by any means (5'2" on a tall day) and I am too tall to jump with this rope. So I would say that this rope was meant for kids younger than 12.
UPDATE: I finally got those handles to twist, unfortunately, there wasn't really any extra rope, so you can't extend it bigger than the size it comes. And it comes small, so I would still recommend this for under 12.

As a jump rope, this is very good. But I bought it specifically for the adjustable quality, and it comes with no instructions about how to adjust. After several frustrating attempts, I finally found a youtube video about how to adjust it: [...]. Um, did they seriously expect people to figure this out on their own? Also be warned that it is a one-time adjustment, not something that you can make bigger as your kid gets older.

The box it comes in doesn't have any instructions on adjusting the length so it took a while for us to figure out how to. Just shove the excess rope into the handle and twist it to the right. It adjusted perfectly for my 7 year old daughter who is 3'6". Having it be a "green" product is a plus.

These jump ropes are very well made. I bought one for each of my granddaughters (different handle colors). Great stocking stuffer and a really nice change from electronic or couch-potato toys!

My 9 yr old daughter really likes this jump rope. She got to using it because she participated in America's Heart Assoc. Jump for the Heart. So it was nice for her to have a rope at home to practice with.
