I bought this toy as a Christmas gift for my 3 and 4 year old daughters. They love it and I happen to think it is pretty cool, too! It has become part of our bedtime routine. Every night at bedtime we pick our "movie" and the girls lay quietly listening to the "story". The projector comes with only one demo reel, so you must purchase others separately. I recommend the Discovery Channel reels-I only wish they had more to choose from. The thing that makes this toy cool is that it projects the images on the ceiling (or wall) and if you buy the reels that have sounds, you will hear several interesting facts as the pictures are displayed. You can choose to have the projector automatically advance to the next picture, or you can do it manually. All in all a great toy with some educational value and a great way to get the kids settled into bed.

Fantastic Bedtime Activity Apr 26, 2009

I got this projector for my four year old son as an Easter basket gift. It turned out to be a fun bedtime activity. We now lay in bed, turn off the lights and go through the reels on the ceiling. Its educational and the best part is that the lights are already turned off so there is no crying when its time to go to sleep. It has become a fantastic bedtime tradition. He's not the most delicate of children so he walks around with the projector banging into things and dropping it on the floor and it still contintues to work great. Overall this is a great toy that has given us a great amount of fun.

I have the ViewMaster SuperSounds projector and wanted to get a spare, only to find this. The Discovery Channel/ViewMaster hybrid is almost the same thing, molded in different color plastics. But if you are wondering what the big divot on the left side is, it is where the older model used to have a wireless remote control unit... that this model doesn't give you. Still a great projector, but I was sorry to see that go.

Picture on the wall is great. We have had the picture almost as big as 9 feet by 9 feet which is great. Only wish they had "movie" reels.
The discovery reels are much better than the other sound reels. They have more sounds on each picture.

We bought this for our 2 1/2 year old son, it is durable expect for the reels they are flimsy. We were looking for something for bedtime. We had a japenese projector that would go for 30 minutes then turn itself off. But it has broken and we can't get a new one. The reels do advance automaticly, but only for one turn. It is very simple to use so our son can do it by himself I am just afraid he'll tear the reels. The sounds are very simple, the animal sounds and one fact about each animal. We are going to keep it but overall I wish it had a timer to set so the reels could go around more then once.
