4Works As Advertised  Apr 05, 2009 By Jorge J. Coelho
Before a recent trip to Disney World we decided to look into a child harness for our 2 year old. We knew that we might draw some stares, but we knew that there were going to be crowds and our 2 year old likes to take off, so this was not a tough decision.

We considered a number of different harnesses, but decided on this one because of other reviews and because we thought it looked great.

Our daughter was hesitant to wear the "monkey" at first, but we started planting the seed ahead of time by having her wear it around the house. We also played games with her where we would chase her and then gently tug at the harness to get her used to the idea.

Once we got to Disney World we did end up using the harness and it came in handy. There were times we would allow her to roam free without the harness when the crowds were not as abundant. However, when the crowds started to come we would use the harness. Our overall impression was that the harness did exactly what we expected. It kept our daughter from getting too far ahead. We got a lot of compliments on the harness and we had a number of people ask us where we purchased the harness. Also, there were many other parents using harnesses and this harness seemed to be the most popular.

Overall, I would have given the harness 5 stars except for one simple fact, you don't have too much control over steering your child unless you decided to yank them around. I'm not exactly sure what could be done to overcome that issue, but that was the only real issue I saw while using the harness. With that said I would definitely recommend this to any parent who is worried about their little one running off.

5Great way to keep track of a toddler  Dec 11, 2007 By A. Pilkington
I got this for my 2 1/2 year old son when I lost him in a store for 20 minutes. He loves backpacks, so it wasn't hard to get it on him the first time. When he is in a good mood he loves to have someone hold his "tail". When he is in a bad mood he knows his choice is to be in the cart or wear monkey. Having a choice is important for a 2 year old. I have used it for about 4 months and even when he pulls on it hard (trying to get away) nothing has torn. I would buy another if this one ever broke. The comments I get from strangers is "that is such a good idea". The "tail" is easy to clip on and off when it isn't needed.

5~*~*~PERFECT FOR MY ACTIVE & INDEPENDANT TWINS~*~*~  Sep 25, 2010 By Mommy of Cuties M & Z "Mom of Twins"
We got these when my girls were 18 months old, Zoey being very independant and not wanting to hold our hands or be put in the cart most of the time & Madison being very high spirited and wanting to run all over the place. We were tired of walking through the store with screaming kids in the cart or having to hold 2 screaming kids who only wanted down(they didn't do that all the time but it wasn't fun)

My girls LOVE Curious George and monkeys so they were all about putting on their monkey backpacks. At first we just put them on in our house and kept the "tail" tied up and they loved their monkeys, always wanted to wear them. The monkey backpack has always been a happy/fun thing so my girls are more than happy to put it on in public.

These have come in SO handy on many different occasions. Like we were shopping for a new computer in the store and it was taking quite a while so my girls kept wanting to get into EVERYTHING and were getting quite grouchy. So while my husband waited I took both my girls "tails" and we walked around the store. Had I not had these monkeys, I never would have been able to walk around with both girls because they are too heavy for me to carry for more than a few minutes and if they get their hands free from me they will normally run in different directions. But my girls were happy being able to walk all around the store...now since my girls were getting used to them and are still pretty young, they DID get the tails tangled around me and themselves on a regular basis but that is hardly a problem and easily remedied. Plus it gives everyone else in the store something to laugh at ;) and let me tell you, we got a lot of attention. Some people just stare, some people laugh, you get the "how cute, how funny, what a great idea, where did you get that" comments. And also the people who remember the toddler leashes their parents used to use on them...the ones that velcro'd around the wrist and had the stretchy old phone cord connecty wire thingy, 2 guys were cracking up talking about their childhood memories. These are WAY better than kid leashes used to be.

These are just a simple monkey backpack leash. It is really big on Madison, she is tiny for her age, below the 5th% but it still works just fine. They are soft and comfy. The backpack is really only big enough for some small snacks or pacifier.

Obviously you can't use these everywhere as it just would not be safe. Anywhere that is really crowded, most people aren't looking for a tiny toddler. We keep these in the van at all times and use them in the appropriate situations, very handy.

Let me know if you have any questions and I will do my best to answer them for you :)

5Great for on the go!  Dec 10, 2007 By erisgrrrl
We bought this when our son first started walking... at about 10 months. We wanted him to be able to walk around as uninhibited as possible while we were out. We live in a pretty small city and walk almost everywhere! Plus, I work in the mall and my husband brings our son to see me almost every day. We get a mix of mean looks/comments and I love it's but mostly the latter.

The loop on the parent end has come almost entirely unsewn but we've been using it for over 2 years so I'm not very upset about that! The pocket in back is tiny but it's big enough for a pacifier (when he used one), a pack of fruit snacks or his sunglasses. The tail unclips so when when we go to the park I can unhook the tail and let him run till his heart's content!

I recommend this to EVERYONE with a lil walker! It lets them feel very independent, get practice walking and still lets you keep them close by. We still hold hands when crossing the street or when the mall is particularly busy but for the most part our boy enjoys being able to run as far is it will go!

2Where's the backpack?  Aug 27, 2011 By redclementine
The first thing my 18-month son did when he saw the Buddy Monkey was to give it a big hug. My first reaction, however, was one of slight confusion... where's the backpack? It looks great but this claims to be a 2-in-1 harness / backpack "for growing travellers" but this isn't a backpack at all! It just has a tiny velcro pocket that you can't put anything in, except maybe a pacifier (which would drop out). I haven't tried it out yet, but I just wanted to say that the description is misleading: this is simply a (cute and practical) harness.
